End-to-end management of service requests
The nlyte® Workflow Module facilitates end-to-end management of service requests. Customers raise service requests from their assigned portfolio of services that can be tailored to meet their specific needs. nlyte® notifies business units or individuals within your organization of outstanding service requests and guides your staff through the tasks required, to fulfill the request. Meanwhile, your customers can track your progress using their personalized workflow views.
Detailed modeling of the service request lifecycle
From the moment a customer raises a request for service to its fulfillment within your business, nlyte® manages the complete service request lifecycle. When you receive a request for service, nlyte® creates a task for each activity defined in the associated process workflow and assigns it an initial status. As tasks are completed, nlyte® controls the progression of your service activities by automatically updating the status of each.
Notification engine drives work and SLA management
The nlyte® notification engine uses these changing task statuses to notify your staff of their next task. Task statuses also drive the notification rules that nlyte® uses to escalate issues to your service managers that might otherwise jeopardize SLAs.
Personalized view of service request/task trees
nlyte® presents personalized views of service activity information to individual users and groups using a tabbed display. The primary Works tab displays a tree structure that you can expand to list the individual tasks within each service request. From here you can display the detailed task screen that nlyte® uses to present operational staff with their individual view of the tasks and the forms they must complete to fulfill each service request.
Flexible, adaptable working environment
nlyte® provides a flexible working environment that you can easily adapt to your specific needs. You can filter information by business group or user, choose to display active, draft or closed requests, and drill down to view the detail of each service request or task.
nlyte® also helps you take account of changing customer requirements and business circumstances throughout the life cycle of each service request. By recording issues against individual tasks, you can suspend progress and indicate to your operational staff any issues that they need to resolve before the task can be completed.

Controlling and sharing information during process execution
nlyte® provides the capability to build custom forms to help you gather the essential information you need to fulfill a service request. Once you have designed a form and linked it to a process workflow, you can use it to capture information as each task of the associated service request is performed.
nlyte® gives you precise control over how these forms can be used. You can provide custom views of the form for different users. You can specify which individual fields within a form will be available at different points in the lifecycle of the service request and the permission levels that will apply at each of these times.
Permission levels allow you to control how the user performing the task may use the form, if at all, and the fields it contains. This means you can gather and share information across tasks or choose to hide information at certain times.
Fast creation of complex forms
The nlyte® form builder is an easy to use graphical editor allowing users to create detailed forms using a wide range of controls that includes free text fields, check boxes, multiple choice combo boxes, calendar tools, URL links, cascading forms and asset pickers. For each of these controls you can define a variety of properties that describe in detail how it will work on the form.
nlyte® simplifies form creation. The drag and drop form builder allows you to quickly select icons from the library of standard controls to create the form on the building stage. Once it is completed and published, you can link the form to processes and stipulate how it will be available to users as they execute individual tasks within the associated services.

Defining service activities and responsibilities
nlyte® processes are the building blocks of all your services. The nlyte® process designer allows you to define the precise actions that make up each service. They represent the tasks your staff must perform in order to satisfy each service request.
The nlyte® process designer presents an intuitive graphical interface to help you easily create workflows to model these tasks. It also allows you to declare the relationships between them that drive automatic process execution. You can define the conditions that determine how and when a task should start and complete as well as allocate specific individual or group responsibilities to ensure the appropriate people perform each activity.
Graphical modeling of process workflows
You create workflows by selecting icons from the graphical activity library and dragging and dropping them onto the process designer stage. At this stage, you can combine these to create a complex workflow that can include sequential, parallel, conditional and loopback activities.
Fast response to customer need
The process designer helps you respond quickly to demand for new services. It uses logic rules to automatically validate your workflow as you create it and includes activity attributes to help you tune the behavior of each task. Once completed and published, your processes become part of your library of services that customers can use to initiate their service requests.

The nlyte® system models all of your network devices and their relationships to other assets within your datacenter. Port-to-Port relationships are modeled between all assets in the network chain, ensuring physical relationships are correctly mapped between the devices.
Graphical physical network mapping
Using the nlyte® advanced network management utilities, you can view and edit the attributes of network connections and relationships your network devices. These intuitive graphical interfaces make it easy for you to manage and track the precise port-to-port connections throughout the network chain.
nlyte® allows you to modify connection properties between network cards on servers and the network device; using the port connection editor you can select ports on destination network assets. nlyte® enables you to view and manage the attributes of each connection: end point IP and MAC addresses, port name, connection speed, connection and cable type. All of which allows you to build an extensive network chain which automatically includes devices whenever you connect them.
Network relationship navigator
To help you navigate the network chains within your datacenter, nlyte® provides a graphical network navigator. From a scrolling list, you can select and display the properties of any network asset connected to your device within the network and open the record to see details of the network chain.

Managing the power requirements of your datacenter equipment and the heat it emits are essential functions. Failure of either will have a significant impact on the performance of your business. To help you do so, the nlyte® Datacenter Module models the power and cooling infrastructure within your datacenter.
Managing the power chain
nlyte® provides power management capabilities, allowing you to plan and map the entire power chain. With these capabilities you can track the relationships and dependencies from a power distribution unit (PDU) to equipment within cabinets. The nlyte® power chain includes the following infrastructure devices:
- PDU – the PDU asset record nlyte® automatically creates includes a breaker table detailing breaker capacity and individual breaker allocation and configuration. As each breaker is created, nlyte® also creates an associated power socket. As a result, the PDU record is related to the UPS record, the breakers on the PDU, the power sockets and all devices connected to the power sockets.
- Industrial power socket – connects a breaker to datacenter locations to provide a power outlet for consuming equipment. Power strips mounted in cabinets or floor standing equipment are connected and record which industrial power socket is supplying the power.
- Power strip – connects to an industrial power socket and has multiple power outlets from which assets can consume power.
nlyte® gives you visibility of the entire power chain allowing you to plan capacity and manage planned and unplanned power outages effectively. Using information about the power capacity of a PDU and the draw against it, you can easily calculate available capacity and the implications of planning for additional equipment.
Managing cooling capacity
nlyte® maps the capacity of your air conditioning units and the heat output of your equipment to help you track cooling capacity against cooling requirements in your datacenter or server room. Using this information you can determine the potential effect of planned installations upon existing active devices to ensure that you do not exceed available cooling capacity. To help you manage heat effectively, nlyte® applies power consumption and thermal ratings to each asset from its associated material record.
